Your child’s first teeth will begin coming in between three and sixteen months (usually around six months). The two bottom front teeth will be followed by the four upper teeth in four to eight weeks.
The timing of the development of the first tooth is largely influenced by genetics, so if there is a family history of getting the first tooth late, then your child will probably also get his first tooth late.
Your child will continue to get new teeth he has all twenty of his primary teeth when he is three years old, with most children getting about four new teeth every four months.

Children begin losing their first teeth when they are around 6-7 years old, and this process is complete with the loss of the 2nd molars when he is about 11-13 years old. Permanent teeth begin developing at around 6-7 years of age and continues until your child gets his third molars (or wisdom teeth) when he is about 17-22 years old.

    SEALANTS

Decay starts mostly in the fissures (pits and groves) on the biting surfaces of the back teeth. These fissures are so narrow, that even a bristle of a tooth brush is too thick to get in and clean them. Germs from plaque, live in the fissures producing aid which cause decay. This procedure is not necessary with every child, it depends on the formation of the child’s teeth. Sealants are plastic coatings which bond to the biting surface.
They fill in the grooves providing better protection against decay. They are usually white or clear in colour, therefore they don’t look unsightly.
The treatment is quick and painless, the teeth need to be cleaned, dried, and then, a thin layer of coating is applied.

Most children and teens have deeper fissures and require a drilling or excavating, just the mere sound of the drill will make them jump out of the chair, not to mention having a shot. Here in GAMA Dental, we use RONDOFLEX plus, an air abrasion system with spray that removes cavities without the high pitched sound associated with handpieces. It is ideal for small cavities on most teeth, and conserves more tooth structure than conventional treatments.

YOUR CHILD’S FIRST VISIT TO GAMA DENTAL CLINIC.

Ideally, it is best to take your child to the dentist between six and twelve months of age. The earlier you begin, the better chance your dentist has to prevent problems. In addition to checking for decay and other problems, the dentist will teach you how to properly clean your child's teeth daily, evaluate any adverse habits such as thumb sucking, and identify your child's flouride needs. By starting dental visits at an early age, you will help your child build a lifetime of good dental habits.

Our first goal in treating your child is to make your child a friend, and the best way we have found of doing this is to make your child feel good about themselves. So as we work with children, we emphasize to the child that they, with their cooperation and grown-up behavior (yes, even 3 year olds), are the reason it was so easy to fix their tooth. By giving the child the credit for the success it gives them recognition as a person. At this first visit, we will answer any questions you may have and do a comprehensive examination of your child's mouth. This will include evaluating the supporting structures and the teeth themselves. Your child's bite (occlusion) will also be evaluated. Usually, we will clean a child's teeth at this first visit also. Application of topical fluoride will depend on the child's age and the need for X-rays will be determined on an individual basis (not routine). Subsequent appointments may be scheduled for cleaning, fluoride treatments, or other things as needed. Your aim as a parent and ours as a dentist are the same. To keep your child's teeth and mouth in good health and to make the process "painless" for child, parent, and dentist!

In choosing a dentist for your child, we realize your primary concern as parents is that your child will undergo treatment without fear and pain. That is our primary goal too. We often find that parents are more apprehensive than their children, and many times we bring an "Apprehensive Parent" into the treatment area so they can witness their child undergoing treatment without the fear they themselves may have experienced as a child.

Oral Hygiene should begin with the eruption of the first tooth.
